For my fellow perfectionists

This quote made me stop...and breath....this week.

"No great thing is created suddenly. There must be time. Give your best and always be kind."

My Weekend in Recipes

"Jackie, Didn't you have anything better to do than take pictures of food all weekend?"

No, I did not. This weekend I cooked and I watched an entire season of The Tudors and that is all. Welcome to my life minus husband plus winter plus exhausting week of work.

So here is a breakdown:

1. They guys at work have been bugging me to bring in biscuits and gravy for months. Did they look at me, decide that I was Southern and then make the judgment that I would automatically be good at making gravy? Well, yes that is kinda how it happened. This past Friday I finally budged. The gravy turned out fine...and the biscuits did not. Note to self: never put biscuits on a pizza pan with holes. The grease will drip and smoke up your whole house at 8:15 in the morning when you were supposed to be in the car 15 minutes before. You will forget that it happened and smoke up your house again the next time you turn the oven on. You will be forced to open every window and door in 20 degree weather. Did I ever mention that I really love my coworkers? To them, I am a gravy goddess.

2. Breakfast with the girls on Saturday morning. I LOVE waking up on a Saturday morning and making a good breakfast. Especially if you can have a few hours of girl talk in the process.

Aunt Ellen's Caramel Soaked French Toast. How many sticks of butter? I'll never tell.
3. I love homemade pizza. My mom made it almost every Friday night of my childhood. I never feel more at home than eating her recipe on a weekend night. I made this one all for myself!
4. Pot of Chili for the week. Because I work ungodly hours (in my opinion).

5. My masterpiece. Devil's Food Cake with Peanut Butter Cream Cheese Filling and Ganache on top. Peanut butter and chocolate are the best combination....ever. Thanks Mama for finding this recipe. And thanks to Toni for the Super Bowl Party so I had an excuse to make it.

And there you have my weekend.

Snow Day Top 10 (In no particular order)

1 .Deciding not to go to work.
2. Not going to work.
3. Getting cold shoveling snow, getting warm drinking coffee.
4. Not having to break into our own house. I thought (for the longest minute of my life) that I locked us out of our house until I realized that I didn't turn the nob hard enough. Corey wasn't happy.
5. Watching a movie.
6. Yoga, but not Corey making fun of Yoga.
7. Walking to dinner in the neighborhood with friends.
8. Snowball fight.
9. Doing absolutely nothing productive.
10. Spending all day stuck at home with my best friend. Cheesy? Yeah, I guess so.

Corey is hard at work.

I am not. I am more interested in my new polka dot rain boots.

Knee deep in snow and taking care of my favorite Alero.

Tea Heaven

If I had to choose one drink to drink for the rest of my life...it would be this. I drink it hot, I drink it cold. It is my tea soul-mate. And that is all.

Happy Monday!

Les Miserables

The first time that I heard music from Les Miserables I was probably about 11 or 12. I knew nothing about the plot but loved the songs! I bought the soundtrack in college and used to belt it out on the drives from Tuscaloosa to Montgomery. For some reason it never struck me as strange that I never saw the play and had no immediate plans to do so.

Thanks to an invite from Dave and Bobbi, I am now a legitimate Les Miserables fan. The show is traveling around the country for their 25th anneversiary and we went to see them on Saturday night. The music was amazing, the set was awesome, and the beautiful room topped it off. And... I know now the plot to the songs that I have known by heart for so long.

Just outside the building, you can see a little of City Hall in the background.

Proof that we were there. Corey was trying to avoid the camera by leaning over and putting the program over his face. Turned into a pretty funny picture.

What does it mean to be young married?

It means going skiing on a random Saturday at the last minute.

I was exhausted and didn't want to do anything last Saturday. But my large ball of energy who also happens to be my husband really had the skiing itch.

It was freezing (25 degrees and snowing) and I prayed that God would spare me as I raced down the hills in a not-so-controlled fashion but it was fun! And we were together.

But it gets better. And then we made homemade pizza after long hot showers. But, it gets better again. I'm trying to watch the top 100 movies of all time. We started our first, Bonnie and Clyde, and I fell fast asleep with that "I'm so tired, my muscles hurt, but now I'm warm and comfortable, watching a movie, under a blanket...must...sleep..." kind of sleep. And that was the best part.

P.S. I'm wearing a military issue hat that makes me look part Russian, part 1920s pilot. But it is warm!
